1. Give at least three (3) things you have learned in the chapter "A Voyage to a New World."
Ans.
* It was year 1882,when Rizal started to travel. He was abroad to a Spanish vessel name "Salvadora" and there were 37 people who are aboard on that vessel, 35 were Spanish and 1 Englishman and himself.
*Their first pit stop was Singapore, Where Rizal roamed and had a hard time looking for a "Zoo" and he met a Malay who cannot understand Spanish,so what he did he draw a figure of a "cow" and then the Malay understood him that he was indeed looking for a zoo.
*And there were 2 characteristics observed during his travel:
1.Inattentiveness to saints(catholic faith).
2.He began to get curious with other religion.
2. Discuss the significance of Luna's Spoliarium and Hidalgo's Christian Virgins Exposed to the Mob vis-a-vis Rizal's ideas on nationalism.
Ans.
Juan Luna and Felix Hidalgo are Propaganda Painters during late 19th century, and they are based in Europe. Juan Luna painted "Spoliarium",while Felix Hidalgo created "Christian Virgins Exposed to the Mob", which won 1st and 2nd place on Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1884.These paintings are considered as one of the
highlights of Filipino Propaganda movement in Europe,Because in the late 19th century Spanish Colonizers considered Filipinos as unpolished and languid country, not ready to
govern themselves. And because of these statements Rizal wrote "The Indolence of the Filipino
People". Filipinos in Europe during that time threw a small party for the said victory and Rizal interpreted Spoliarium as a symbol of 'Our social, moral, and
political life: humanity unredeemed, reason and aspiration in open fight with prejudice,
fanaticism, and injustice.
3. According to Rizal, what is the best legacy that parents can leave to their children?
Ans.
"The best legacy that parents can leave to their children is an
upright judgment, generosity in the exercise of Our rights, and
perseverance in adversity. And a son pays the greatest honor to his
parents with his honesty and good name; let the son never make his
father tremble with indignation or with shame, and God will provide
the rest....

Rizal’s Life and Works
Thursday 7:00am to 10:00am
1. In a “Voyage to a New World, I have learned that:
a. Studying and learning new things will help us achieve our missions in life.
b. No man is an island. We should learn how to be friendly and respectful others despite of our differences in nationalities and beliefs.
c. Our curiosity may lead us either to success or failure, but at least we learned out of it.
2. The Spoliarium painting of Juan Luna portrays defeated gladiators in the arena being dragged into a pile of other corpses. A Spoliarium was a room in the amphitheatres in ancient Rome. Defeated and badly wounded gladiators where brought to this room and executed after the fights.
The Christian Virgins Exposed to the Mob of Félix Resurrección Hidalgo is a landmark painting depicting the persecution of Christians in Ancient Rome. It portrays two scantily clothed Christian female slaves being mocked by a group of boorish Roman male onlookers. They are young virgins cornered by a mob of sexually hungry Roman men.
These two were revolutionary paintings. Painted during the Spanish colonial times in the Philippines, it has been suggested that these paintings intended to portray the harshness and discrimination of Spaniards to Filipinos.
Dr. Jose Rizal praised the two artists and the significance of their works. The two paintings greatly demonstrate Rizal's ideas on nationalism. Rizal believed that the paintings of Luna and Hidalgo embodied the essence of our social, moral, and political life: humanity in severe ordeal, humanity unredeemed, reason and idealism in open struggle with prejudice, fanaticism, and injustice. The two paintings deeply showed how Rizal viewed Filipinos who are full of miseries and have been stripped of their dignity by Spain.
The two paintings present human spoilage and spoils, with human spoilage more related to Luna's Spoliarium while the human spoils to Hidalgo's The Christian Virgins Exposed to the Mob.
3. According to Dr. Jose Rizal, the best legacy that parents can leave to their children is an upright judgment, generosity in the exercise of our rights, and perseverance in adversity. For Rizal, religion is the holiest of things and he pays the greatest honor to his parents for making him a good Christian which greatly helped him to make good decisions in life.
Sometimes knowledge is what leads people to ruin but because of the good legacy that his parents gave him, Rizal did not fail in his duties as a real Christian and Filipino.

1. the first thing i learned is that Rizal was good in sketching, he drew every faces of the people who aboard the ship. second is that, he made friends with the Spaniards and an Englishmen while they were playing chess and Rizal beat all the players he fought and the 3rd is that, Rizal was went to every places and he went to a zoo to see every animals in there.
2. in Luna's painting, the significance is that Rizal thought of the Filipino who are being punished by the Spaniards, who fought and had a revolt in them, they were executed by death penalty, like the execution of the GOMBURZA, who happens to be executed in front of the crowded people..
while in Hidalgo's painting, Rizal thought of the Filipino women who are being abused and Sexually harassed by the Spaniards..
3. The best legacy that the parents can leave to their children is that the Education that can enhance their dignity, ability and the aspects of being a good Filipino, to proved to the whole world that the Filipino is good at everything, and to be respectful to other. and also to make the Filipino nations a proud.

1) The three things that I've learned in the Charter7 entitled "A Voyage to a New World"
are; First I've learned that Rizal is a thrifty man for he was able to use his 356pesos in is voyage and still had a savings of 15pesos after of his voyage.
next one is that, Rizal had this insensitivity to his religion for he became curios of other religions. And lastly, I've learned that Rizal was a keen observer in terms of nature and the people that he encountered.
2) The significance of Luna's Spolarium and Hidalgo's Christian Virgins exposed to the Mob in Rizal's idea on nationalism is that, because of this two masterpieces the two artist were able to show their sympathy on what had happened to their country, that Rizal knew that he would also do something worth for his country.
3) According to Rizal, the best legacy that parents can leave to their children is only EDUCATION.

1. During the Voyage he carefully observed the people and the things on board the steamer. There were sixteen passengers. He was the only Filipino and the rest were Spaniards, British, and Indian Negroes. To kill boredom of the voyage, Rizal played chess with his fellow passengers. then he defeated them many times for he was a good chess player. Rizal departed on board the Spanish steamer salvadora bound for Singapore with tears in his eyes and gloom in his head, He gazed the receding skyline of Manila. then took his pencil and paper and sketched it as it vanished in view. He was be able to be friend foreigners from the various nations that he visited and immerse himself in western culture that influenced his liberal and progressive politics. The Salvadora docked at Singapore. He stayed at hotel de la paz and spent two days on a sightseeing soiree of the city. He saw the famous Botanical Garden then beautiful buddhist templates, the busy shopping distinct.
2. It emphasized the violation of human rights by the colonizers of Spain. In the harmonious relationship between the red and the center of the painting and shade of green in the darkness. He creates a division because of this, one half shows the horror of dragged corpse and on the other, the mourning of the lady.Because of the contrast in color, the point of interest is able to draw attention. This is because Juan Luna express life thru body. By Painting the body larger than any other parts emphasized life and doing shows dominance to attract attention. It shows the underbelly of the roman Colosseum, showing the careasses Spanish Colonialism in the Philippines, exposing the gruesome and unjust nature of their rule.

*From the painting you will first see that the higher people they do not gave love to the poor
they abused them cause they treat them a slave. Also no equality in the painting, the poor people
were slave by the rich people and the higher position was no mercy. The two paintings signifies
the slavery between spaniards and pilipinos.

1. The first ting that Ive learn in the chapter "A Voyage to a new World" was showing great love for the family members like what Paciano and Sturnina showed to their brother Jose Rizal.Paciano gave Jose Rizal a pocket money worth P356 while Saturnina gave him a diamong necklace for his traveling abroad. They loved their brother so much showed cared for him because he would going to a far place.Second was a loyalty to the country Although Rizal were in abroad, he always think for his beloved country and the good for his fellowmen. He was so proud of being a Filipino. He went to different countries and observed thats why he found out that if other countries can fight and claimed their lands why not the Philippines. The third was the perseverance to pursue and to strive your goal.Like Jose Rizal he doesn't stop dreaming and aiming high for himself. He wanted to show that he can excel in anything thats why he studied singing, fencing, other famous languages and etc. He keep believing himself that he can do everything and thats inspired many Filipinos.
2.Rizal saw in Juan Luna and Felix Hidalgo's paintings the reflection of what the Philippines state look at that time.It brings message like the Spanish cruelty, unfairness and inequality thats why it came to Rizals mind to show nationalism by writing a novels to open the mind of his fellowmen and send it to the Philippines to inspire them to fought for their land.
3. According to Jose Rizal the best legacy that parents can leave to their children were upright judgement where a good parents should teach their children to have a fair view to everyone Another was generosity in the excercise of our right that means that everyone has their own choices and freewill or being not dictated by anyone. And the last was perseverance in adversity that means we have to face all the troubles that we may encounter in our lives. We have to be strong in facing all those trials because that will make us tough in the future.

1) The three things that i learned with the chapter "A Voyage to a new World"are: a) Experience- Rizal's braveness to experience everything was amazingly inspiring. Like Rizal, I love to travel and experience to be in other place too.
b) Braveness- being brave is needed in facing all the circumstances in life. Rizal has this behavior that i admired most. Being brave is like a sword in going through life.
c) Courage- to have courage is so important. It is your desire in reaching your mission in life. By having a courage, Rizal had able to know his mission in life.
2) The significance of Luna's Spolarium and Hidalgo's Christian Virgin Exposed to the Mod is that because of the two masterpieces made by two artist Rizal had this eagerness to know everything that might bring honor to his country through on his own hardships.

Lesson’s that I’ve learned on the story of “A Voyage to a New World."
The determination of Jose Rizal to study and sustain his writings in other country proved to us and to his countrymen that he use his knowledge to hold on, out of the dilemma experience by his country on that time even though it is very hard for him to fit up his pocket money just to finish printing his writings.
2. Las Virgenes Cristianas Expuestas al Populacho or The Christian Virgins Exposed to the Populace is a famous 1884 and it was regarded as one of the national treasures of the Philippines, about the description on the paintings which was Hidalgo‘s works One of the women is posed seated in nude status at the foreground of the painting with her head bowed in misery and shame and the other girl whose standing with semi-nude status have been revoke not only of their garments but also of their dignity. The unfortunate women in the artwork are considered by some indigenous Filipinos as virgins "being led out, stolen from, and ridiculed”. The women are young virgins cornered by a mob of "sexually hungry" Roman men. One of the men has his hand over one semi-naked female whose eyes are "looking up to heaven" asking and begging for "help that never comes".
Together with Juan Luna's Spoliarium, Hidalgo’s Las Virgenes Cristianas Expuestas al Populacho presents "human spoliage and spoils", with human spoilage more related to Luna's Spoliarium while the human spoils to Hidalgo's Las Virgenes Cristianas Expuestas al Populacho. Such themes were presented to the "juries and audiences" of the Madrid exposition in order to satisfy the "erudition-quotient" essential to the conservative scholarly Neoclassicism of Hidalgo and Luna while they were spending time in Europe.
3. According to Rizal, what is the best legacy that parents can leave to their children?
Jose Rizal’s greatest legacy was that he lived a full and meaningful life. It did not matter that he lived for only 34 years. He accomplished so much in such a short period of time because he had a vision in his mind and a mission in his heart. The intensity of such mission and vision translated into action that enabled him not to waste time in any trivial matters but rather devote all of his time to the accomplishment of the mission and vision that he believed was given to him. The Education that his parents gave to him leads in him to dream and make the honor for his country.

1.When Jose went to Singapore he rides with ship called salvadora. He felt so alone because he is the only Filipino at the ship. When he went to Singapore he has only 356 pesos and his sister named saturnina give him a diamond ring so that when Jose out of budget he will sale this ring so that he has a money to used. At that time when Jose was at the states he dreamed about his older brother dying, he dream about his sister and caught by a crocodile and he also dream that he is the actor of the play and he was died at the play. All of this dreamed was happening to his true life. On June 30, 1982 Rizal send a note to his family and he said that he was disappointed because at the states no one know about the Philippines.

1.jose rizal travel to many country to another knowledge to other country but the best intention of rizal is to having a knoledge in arts.
2.The basic story of the “Spoliarivm” takes place in the 15th century or something around that time. Anyway, this is the time in history when the Romans traveled to Europe and collected slaves, otherwise known as the Vikings, to entertain other people in Rome. The more powerful Romans created the “Viking Games” where Vikings fought, not on their own accord, but forced by the Romans. The Viking slaves battled either lions, tigers or each other. And to tell you the truth, it was extremely bloody. That’s why they had the Spoliarivm. The Spoliarivm was used to “spoil” the dead bodies of the Vikings. Let’s just say they threw the dead Vikings’ bodies on top of each other in a pile and let the birds feed on their flesh.
