Emphasis will be on the hands-on application of the acquired knowledge and skills that involves project preparation and project implementation at the adopted communities.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:       At the end of the semester, students are expected to:

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Our College issues two grades for the semester: first is the midterm grade and the second one is the final grade as per Article X, Section B of the College Student Handbook. The computation for the Final Grade is 40% from the Prelim to Midterm Period and 60% from the Pre-final to Final Period.

Midterm Period Requirements (40%):

30%      Project Proposal – No written exam will be given during the prelim period. A project proposal is required. Students should form groups with 20 members each group. Submission is on December 15, 2011 (Thursday) until 6:00 PM only. Format and contents of the project proposal will be discussed to you in the class. A printed copy of the proposal and a soft copy are required for submission. Send the soft copy to my email address indicated above.

30%      Midterm Examination – The midterm examination, which will be held on January 17, 2012 (for Tuesday class) and January 19, 2012 (for Thursday classes), will cover all topics discussed in the class. Questions will be of various types – multiple choice questions (MCQs), enumeration, true or false questions, short answers, essays, etc. The written exam is equivalent to 100 points.

25%      Attendance – An important component for your grade in this course is your attendance – both in-class discussions and during our community visits. It is the responsibility of your team leaders to check the attendance in both cases.

15%      Online Assignments – You need to submit two (2) assignments online through our class website. Questions are posted usually two weeks before the deadline of submission. For the first assignment, the deadline of submission is on December 3, 2011 (Saturday) until 11:59 PM, and for the second assignment, December 31, 2011 (Saturday) until 11:59 PM. You cannot submit your answers beyond the deadline. Answers sent to my email address or in other links on the website will NOT be credited; therefore, you need to make sure that you submit your assignments on the website and on the right link.

Final Period Requirements (60%):

30%      Portfolio – No exam will be given during the pre-final period. All you need to do is to compile all the paper works you submitted since the start of the second semester such as Student Profile Form, written essays, feedback forms, artworks, etc. Use a sliding folder for your portfolio and submission will be due on March 15, 2012 (Thursday) until 6:00 PM only.

30%      Final Project – This requirement is of two kinds: a written project report based on your project proposal and an oral presentation. Make sure that you include the documentation in your project report of all activities conducted both in TFVC and in the adopted communities. Submit a printed copy of your report and send the soft copy to my email.

For this semester, we will launch the NSTP-CWTS Best Project Competition. All projects are included as official entries to this competition. A panel of judges will select the best output for the award of The NSTP-CWTS Best Project 2012. Awarding will be conducted during the NSTP Graduation and Awarding Ceremonies on March 19 or 20 or 22, 2012 (We’ll talk about this.)

25%      Attendance – Your points for attendance will come from two sources just like in the midterm period – attendance in your TFVC-based activities and your attendance in our community insertions. Your team leader will be checking your attendance in both cases.

15%      Online Assignments – Check our class website for two assignments which are due on January 28, 2012 (Saturday) until 11:59 PM for the 3rd assignment and on February 25, 2012 (Saturday) until 11:59 PM for the 4th one.

Extra Credits:

Do I give extra credits? Yes! Details will be discussed during our last class session. This is an extra coursework, so it is optional.

Another source for getting credits is your attendance. If you have a PERFECT ATTENDANCE, i.e., no absence whether it is excused or unexcused, I will give you a 0.25-grade point raise in your FINAL GRADE. For example, if your final grade is 2.0, I will make it 1.75.

CLASSROOM POLICIES:

1. No make-up midterm exam will be given if you fail to take it for any reason EXCEPT for serious illness or death of a family member.
2. You will be marked ABSENT after your team leader check the attendance if you are not inside the classroom.
3. Make sure that you are familiar with computer and internet because you will be using them for your paper works and online assignments.
